And Then There Was Now

How can essence be transient?
How could it not?

This world, as if poisoned by undesirable desire,
as if we were millions of years late to the party,
as if insight were indigestible,
as if Lucretius had committed suicide.

Some of us are content to curate
the flow of our own lives.

The hero's journey ends
where the villain's journey ends,
where the coward's journey ends,
where every journey ends.

If I am not what I have
been then what am I?
