Ancestor-Debt
there is nothing more to say
there is nothing more to say
but if you can bear to hear me speak
I'll say it anyway—
everything you've wanted
and everything you've had
whether it was good
or whether it was bad
even the plans you've made
came at a tremendous cost
of which you've only paid
just the barest interest
the principal was paid for you
long before you were born
by the now-dead predecessors
whom we forget or even scorn
well, I'll tell you how to pay back
the ancestor-debt you owe—
do something now to stay the attack
on the ones who'll come after you go
there is nothing more to say
there is nothing more to say
but since you haven't heard it
I'll say it anyway
