A Little Knowledge Is My Favorite Thing

If we were aware of only one thing,
whether we were happy or not,
wouldn't we be happier?
To reduce complexity reduces reality,
or awareness of it/participation in it,
but how much reality do we want?
How much do we need?
Do we need more than we want?
Surely we do. But we are so brief and
obsessed with the seductions of perception
that happiness is either nothing or everything
and we make concessions to the arguments
of our appetites, spilling the giggle out of our vessel
as though enjoyment were sufficient benefit.
