Dreaming; Night of
May 14, 1983

7:52              Fantastic! I went on a field trip with my class to watch the policemen work or something. We came to this fissure in the road and everyone jumped in (squeezed in). We were in a sandy tunnel which led to a huge cliff. On the cliff, there were hundreds of thick, multicolored licorice ropes that led to the bottom. We climbed down and were in a fantastic city. I don't remember the exact details (more's the pity) but we were all split up and spread out through the city. In the different parts of the city, in different locations, different kinds of magical things happened to you. Sometimes you saw magical things, sometimes you acquired powers, etc. The scenes were totally fantastic. There were several alien types (different kinds or species) mixed in among the people in the little city. Everything was wonderful, but behind everything was something bad, a trap. For example, down one hallway you had a choice of three doors in a row or continuing on. I continued on, but later, when I was beginning to suspect, I returned and carefully opened each door without going inside. In each, poisoned darts were shot out at the place where a person would normally be upon seeing what was inside, for in each was a different sort of treasure. I only remember one, which contained a small hill of cut rubies. I still didn't want to go in, afraid that there might be some more nasty surprises, but I was greedy so I compromised. I threw some sort of cloth over the rubies from outside the door and pulled it back out, having caught just one ruby. I put the ruby in my pocket, felt I had better go, and went. During this dream, I entered the minds and saw the scenes from several different minds (all minds, though, of the people who had originally entered with me. Also while in all of the minds, including mine, I met up with some of the others for brief periods of time until we again became separated. There was a surveillance system set-up that monitored your every move (sensors, not cameras), but it could be beaten. This whole place was like a wonderland or fairytale land, but it was also a hidden "Inferno." I believe that we were all somehow given the knowledge that to get out we had to pay a grand amount of money which of course, none of us had. When I got the ruby I tried to sell it but couldn't because there were so many down there. There was, of course, another way out—escape. That is what most of us set about trying. I was in the mind of one lady who was with another. They did a few things and finally came to a window with a large tree branch right outside of it. I was in the first one's mind. They decided to try the branch. The first girl (with me) made it across the branch but the other one was stuck on the ledge outside of the window, because after the first one got across, the branch disappeared. I switched into the mind of other at this point, so I don't know what happened to the one who made it across (to another portion of the building). The girl whose mind I was now residing in was unable to make it back up to the window. She looked down and began hoping for someone to come help her. All of a sudden, a man appeared and began growing. She reached towards him and began growing too. When they were both about 100 yards tall, they grasped each other's hands and he pulled her down safely. They then returned to normal size, and she thought he was a hero and fell in love with him. They went back to his apartment with the intention of being married, but found a group of officious-looking people waiting there. They handed her a large, white plastic bag and she looked inside. Right before she looked inside, my mind leaped out of hers and took up a post watching her from outside of her. Therefore, I did not get to see what was in the bag, but from what was said by her and the others, it was the maimed remains of the man's wife and two children. The officious people were not there, it seemed, to arrest the man for his crime, but rather they were there to ruin the girl's happy frame of mind by crushing her image of her new-found idol. At this point my mind switched to another far off in a different part of the city. I have forgotten so much of this that I guess I'd better go onto the final scene now. My mind left the city, back out to the world with which I had been familiar my whole life. I saw that time up there had only run about two hours, while below it had been two days or maybe even two weeks. The teacher and a couple of students had stayed behind outside of the fissure, and had been waiting there this whole time. Finally, one of the students couldn't wait any longer, and set off into the fissure to rescue the others (of whose plight he was not but soon would become aware). It was this mind which, at this point, I entered. He entered the city and, becoming aware of the surveillance system and traps he mingled with the crowd of people, aliens, and such. He walked funny so that the sensors would mistake him for a person like many of those around who, as he said (or thought rather), didn't know how to walk properly. As he passed through the scenery, playing hide-and-seek with the detectors, he saw some of the things I had seen before and now find so hard to describe. Lots of colors and lights and colored lights. At one point, he passed through a hall that had three fairly large doorways, covered by thick curtains, side by side. He pulled aside the curtain and quickly shut it again, not wanting to attract the attention of those inside watching a movie. Everything in the city was ultra-clean, like the cliff on which the licorice was that you could eat (some of which I did!). Oh yes, coming down the cliff, you could see the whole valley that contained the city spread out before you. It looked fantastic with colors in the sky and sparkling magnificence. And by the way, it was apparent that this place was not underground, but rather that the fissure had led to another dimension. Anyway, at the point where the boy was walking around, I woke up (why!?). There are a lot of scenes and things that I saw and a lot of mind transfer occurrences that I have forgotten or I could write them too. For example, I believe that Algie [pet mouse at the time] was in here somewhere (no, on second thought I think that was another dream), but just all sorts of incredible things I've forgotten. Too, this power of mine to switch minds was not part of the dream, but rather a power of dreaming itself, something I do all the time, if not to the gratifying extent it went to in this dream.
