Dreaming; Night of
January 29, 1987

6:01              2I was in a city on a bay at night. I was with others whom I knew well. There may have been a bit before this. There was a Mexican warship in the bay, which had given us an ultimatum, for dawn, I believe. The others were resigned to accepting their (forgotten) terms, but I was outraged. I decided to make an attempt to destroy the ship that night, to destroy or be destroyed. My head was full of thoughts of heroic glory, and I knew that I could not fail. I got one companion to join me in my endeavor, but the others thought that (a) I was crazy, or (b) it was useless. My companion and I gathered together a map and a few odds and ends to aid our assault and prepared for the deed. The others tried to dissuade us, afraid of international repercussions. They cited an historical example of a case where we had meddled with Mexico and no good had come of it. I pointed out how, in that case, if we'd kept a steady hand, at least two of the Mexican states and perhaps all of Mexico would have been ours. We were untouched by their appeals and prepared for our assault. (G)
